Panaji: The Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested three persons, including a husband-wife duo, resulting in the seizure of drugs worth Rs 43 crore — the biggest haul of narcotics in the coastal state.
Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Rahul Gupta told reporters that the three were arrested at Chicalim village in South Goa for possessing 4.32 kilograms of cocaine.
He said the drugs were concealed in chocolate and coffee packets, totaling 32 in number. Police have arrested Nibu Vincent, Manguesh Wadekar, and his wife Reshma.
Gupta said this is the biggest drug seizure ever in the coastal state.
The SP stated that Reshma had procured the packets from a source for peddling the drugs through her husband and Nibu.
“We are verifying from where such a huge quantity of drugs was procured,” he said, adding that police are also investigating the international angle as Reshma had recently travelled to Thailand.
He said Reshma was earlier imprisoned for three months in connection with a prostitution case, while her husband also has a criminal record.
