Panaji: The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited has agreed in principle to ply special trains directly from Goa to Prayagraj on behalf of the Goa government.
While details about the train tariff are not available, a senior government officer said that they are studying the possibility of providing free travel or tickets at a subsidized rate for those wishing to visit Mahakumbh.
Informally, this train would be called the Mahakumbh Express.
These trains would exclusively run from Goa to Prayagraj taking no other stops outside Goa, which means the travel time would be on real-time basis.
The KRCL has sought permission from the Railway board to have 17-18 coaches for each train. The state government is planning to have 2-3 such trains, depending on the response of the people.
An official said that those travelling in the Mahakumbh Express will be taken together to River Ganga and would have to be together throughout the journey.
The exact date of first train is to be announced soon.
