Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte has said that while on one side ‘rationing’ of vaccine by state government is leaving the vaccination centres empty, the population between 18-4 4 years of age have been sent back without being vaccinated.
Khaunte pointed out that in the vaccination centre at Salvador do Mundo, only 20 people under differently abled and lactating mothers were vaccinated while several people from general category were sent back.
The MLA said that the aim of the state government should have been to vaccinate each and every person as rather than “third wave attacking us, we should attack it.”
He demanded that the state government should open up the vaccination for general people between 18-44, who are registered on the portal, while continuing with the special priority for the categories like lactating mothers, differently abled, seafarers and others.
Khaunte stated that “not only ten per cent of the vaccination has been touched in the state.”
He said that the third wave is for the children and their parents. Khaunte said that the team of doctors from Goa Medical College has already acknowledged that the third wave will reach in next one month.
He said that the state government has not taken MLAs, Panch members and Zilla Panchayat members into confidence while introducing this rationing of the vaccination.
“While in other countries, government is reaching to the door steps of the people with vaccines, we are sending back the people who come to our door step ready for vaccination.”
Pointing out to the vacci-assist program introduced by Porvorim Rising, Khaunte said that the state government should have undertaken such programmes where the person would register himself before arriving at the vaccination centre.
He said that the parents are worried about their children while there is also apprehension that those who were sent back from the vaccination centre, might not come back again after having such an experience.
