Panaji: A group of civil society members demanding resignation of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar owing to his ill-health on Saturday decided to intensify their agitation.
RTI Activist Rajan Ghate has been on indefinite hunger strike for last nine days at Azad Maidan in Panaji demanding Parrikar’s resignation.
Parrikar, 62, has been recuperating at his private residence at Dona Paula, near here, since October 14, when he was discharged from All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi.
The group of civil society members under the banner of “Citizens for Restoration of Governance in Goa” held a public meeting at protest site, urging Ghate to withdraw his indefinite hunger strike.
Ghate has refused to budge stating that his strike will continue till Parrikar resigns for the sake of restoration of governance in the coastal state.
“We have now decided to protest at the public functions attended by Union ministers and also State Governor Mridula Sinha, who has refused to exercise her power and get CM resigned from the post,” Aires Rodrigues, who is spearheading the movement, told the gathering.
He said that the members of the group will also flash demonstrations outside the private residence of Parrikar, where he has set up Intensive Care Unit of Goa Medical College and Hospital, a state run healthcare facility.
“The meeting strongly condemns Manohar Parrikar for selfishly clinging to the Chief Minister’s chair despite being physically incapacitated and criticall ailing over last nine months,” reads the resolution adopted after the public meeting.
“This meeting further condemns Goa Governor Mridula Sinha for being a mere spectactor to the breakdown in the administration and having failed in her Constitutional obligations to intervene and restore Governance in the State,” the resolution adds.
The meeting also resolved to intensify the agitation across the State in all the twelve talukas to demand a full time performing Chief Minister so that Governance can be restored in the State.
