Panaji: Goa Police have arrested a 25-year-old man from Punjab after he was allegedly found in possession of charas worth more than Rs 1.46 lakh during a narcotics raid in Mandrem, an official said.
A senior police department officer said that a case was registered in the early hours of Wednesday based on a complaint filed by PSI Archana Sharma of Mandrem Police Station.
The officer informed that the raid was conducted late Tuesday night between 8:30 pm and 8:45 pm at Sachhabhatle, near the local chapel in Mandrem, Pernem taluka, acting on specific intelligence.
During the operation, the accused — identified as Akash Adwal, a resident of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab — was allegedly found carrying 146.50 grams of a black, sticky substance suspected to be charas, valued at Rs 1,46,500.
Police are investigating the activities of the arrested accused in Goa.
Police also seized his mobile phone with two IMEI numbers and a SIM card, all of which were attached under a panchanama.
The accused was placed under arrest on Wednesday, police said.
