Panaji: Days after State government moved to build a new Raj Bhavan, Progressive Front of Goa has appealed like minded people, citizens, historians, archeologists and others to join Save Raj Bhavan campaign.

PFG has said that at no cost, the existing Raj Bhavan which his located at Cabo, a Portuguese era architectural marvel, would be allowed to shift.

PFG leader Hrudaynath Shirodkar and Mahesh Mhambre has suspected a game plan of handing over Cabo Palace to a private party by moving out Raj Bhavan from there.

“ We cannot let Goa government execute its super-ambitious, money making plan of selling of Raj Bhavan to private parties in the name of its upkeep or repairs,” the PFG has said.

“We have already lost Adil Shah palace, which has been emptied and memories of pre and post liberation era, being sold off to the scrap dealer,” it has added.

“Now, there are attempts to put Raj Bhavan for sale. Goa government has decided to construct new Raj Bhavan by claiming that the existing premises would be handed over to Archeological Survey of India,” the PFG said.

The organization has also sought reply to several questions from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

They have questioned the need of new Raj Bhavan. The PFG has also asked whether Archeological Survey of India can ask Raj Bhavan to get out of the place?

“Whom do they want to hand over the building? Is it true that some private interests have cropped up? Can CM Pramod Sawant take onus of the decision to shift Raj Bhavan?” they questioned.

“Will he say on record that it is his decision? How long will Goa government play to the whims and fancies of coteries in Delhi?,” they further asked.
