Panaji: The Goa government has issued a memorandum regarding the identification of land and temporary office space for setting up the Kushavati District Headquarters in Quepem taluka.

Quepem taluka is part of the newly constituted Kushavati District in the coastal state, which will be the third district after the North and South districts.

Ramesh Gaonkar, the Additional Collector (II) of Kushavati District, issued a memorandum on January 5, 2025, for the identification of suitable land for the construction of the permanent district headquarters of Kushavati District in Quepem taluka.

The memorandum has also asked the Deputy Collector of Quepem taluka to initiate the process for identifying suitable office space for the initial temporary setup of the District Headquarters within the jurisdiction of Quepem taluka.

While the Goa government has specified that the new Kushavati District will be headquartered in Quepem taluka, residents of Quepem and Curchorem towns are demanding that the facility should come up in their respective areas.

The new district comprises the talukas of Quepem, Sanguem, Curchorem and Dharbandora, which were earlier part of South Goa district.

The Deputy Collector has also been asked to submit a comprehensive proposal to the government for approval for the setting up of the Kushavati District Headquarters.

The memorandum has directed the Deputy Collector to submit a detailed report within seven days, indicating particulars of the land or office space identified, feasibility, availability, ownership details, infrastructure status and any other relevant aspects, to enable further inspection and submission of the proposal to the government.
