Private Hospitals to discontinue getting covid vaccines, if they inoculate non health workers: DHS

Panaji: Health Department on Sunday threatened to discontinue supply of COVID-19 vaccines to those private hospitals, which are found to be inoculating the non Health workers, violating the central guidelines.

State Immunisation Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar, in a communication to the concerned officials, said that “complaints have been recived that some of the private hospitals have indulged in vaccinating those who are not health care workers so also those who are not registered on COWIN portal.”

“This has been viewed seriously by State government and Governemnt of India. The health department will be forced to stop providing the vaccines to such hospitals and institutions and the whole program of covid vaccination may get disturbed,” he said.

Borkar said that the issue would be raised with all the private hospitals and Indian Medical Association (IMA) to ensure that no deviation from Government of India guidelines takes place.

Besides state run facilities like Goa Medical College and hospital, District Hospitals, Sub District Hospitals, Community Health centre, around half a dozen private hospitals have been empanelled to administer COVID-19 vaccine to its Healthcare workers.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had recently told mediapersons that he has ordered inquiry into the allegation that a Margao-based hospital was indulging in providing vaccination to the non health workers.
