In a meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party’s North District Committee held today, it was unanimously resolved to propose the name of State Secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar as the party’s candidate in the North Goa constituency for the ensuing 2019 General Elections.
Earlier, following extensive consultation with party volunteers and constituency coordinators, four candidates were shortlisted, including Padgaonkar, Siolim-based lawyer and 2017 Siolim candidate Adv. Vishnu Naik, veteran leader & 2017 Thivim candidate Shri Pradeep Ghadi Amonkar, and North Goa district Convenor & Parra-based businessman Mr. Sunil Signapurkar. Padgaonkar’s name will now be forwarded to the party’s Political Affairs Committee, for announcement along with other constituencies that will be contested by Aam Aadmi Party across India.
Shri Pradeep Padgaonkar needs no introduction, having carved out a respectable name for himself in social work, media, and politics. He holds a B.Com degree from DMC college Mapusa. He has been a founder member of the Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, a sports, social and cultural organization in Saligao. Also, by popular demand, he has remained the longest-serving Secretary of Datta Devasthan in Saligao for more than 16 yrs. Padgaonkar also was associated with the Goa Football Association, being a member of the specially appointed Finance Committee to probe financial irregularities. Most recently, he retired as Senior Manager at Prudent after a 10-yr career at one of Goa’s oldest news channels. He has also appeared in various films and TV serials, most famously as Dattu Apa, a protagonist against corruption and wrong doings.
