Porvorim: Porvorim police have booked a group of tourists from Maharashtra for allegedly displaying a Police signboard on their private car in violation of the law.

Police Inspector Rahul Parab said that on January 2, 2026, a Hyundai Verna bearing registration number MH-12-LP-5689 was found moving suspiciously in the Porvorim area with a Police signboard affixed to the vehicle.

A patrolling team comprising driver PC Baburao Shirodkar and Head Constable Dharmendra Wadkar intercepted the car. Upon verification, the occupants were found to be privately employed individuals with no association with any police department.

During questioning, the accused reportedly admitted that the signboard was used to evade police checks.

The accused were arrested under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and were later produced before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Mapusa. They were subsequently released after furnishing a security bond.
