Panaji: A portion of century old building in the heart of Panaji city collapsed during wee hours of Sunday.

A senior official from Fire and Emergency Services said that three people who were sleeping the building were trapped under the debris but were rescued immediately.

The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. due to incessant rains that has hit the coastal state since last four days, uninterrupted.

“One storey building was almost a century old located next to historic Azad Maidan,” he said.

The official said that while on first floor there was a rented accommodation, the ground floor has several shops.

One of the shop has been damaged when part of the building caved in, he said.
