Pernem police arrests two for growing cannabis, items worth Rs 20 lakh seized

Panaji: In a narcotics raid conducted by the Pernem police team, cannabis plants, Ganja and Charas worth Rs 20 lakhs seized and arrested two people at Korgao.

As per PI Jivba Dalvi, he had collected intelligence regarding drug activities at Korgao. Accorodingly watch was being maintained from a few days and finally on November 23, a raid was conducted by the team of Pernem police during which ganja worth Rs. 8,600, charas worth Rs. 5,60,000, and cannabis plant worth Rs. 14,00000 was seized under the panchanama.

Both accused are identified as Larsen Richard age 34 years old native of Bandra Mumbai and Rene Neel Santan Dsouza, age 44 years old, resident of Korgao Pernem.

The raid was conducted in a house at Korgao and during the raid it was found that favorable environment and atmosphere was created for cultivation of cannabis as tubelights, temperature moderating machines and exhaust fans were found to be placed in the cultivation room.

This is the sixth raid on cannabis plantation at Pernem in last two months.

An offence under sections 20(b)(ii)(A), 20(b)(ii)(B), and 20(a) R/w section 29 of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered.

The raiding team was led by PI Jivba Dalvi consisting of PSI Praful Giri, constables Vinod Pednekar, Anishkumar Poke, Ravi Mhaloji, Vishal Naik, Gajanan Sawant, Rohan Velgekar and Kiran Parab.

Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of SDPO Gajanan Prabhudesai and SP North Shobit Saxena IPS.
