Panaji: Goa today continued getting incessant rains for the third day inundating low lying areas and throwing life out of gear in all the cities.
A senior official from Indian Meteorological Observatory has said that the heavy to very heavy rains will continue hitting the state for next 48 hours.
The cities including Panaji, Mapusa, Vasco and Margao witnessed traffic congestions and inundation with water rushing into the houses located in low lying areas.
“There were complaints of water rushing in the houses at Mala area of Panaji. The team of workers have been sent to clear the water logging,” a senior Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) official said.
He said that the inundation of these houses has been a regular affair.
Incidently, all the area around Corporation of City of Panaji had gone underwater with water gushing into the shops located at city’s 18th June road. The traffic on the entire road had come to standstill.
In Margao city, some houses at Kharebandh area had water rushing into their dwellings.
A bridge connecting South Goa to Margao city at Paroda in Quepem taluka, 45 kms away from here, had gone underwater disrupting the traffic on the route. Eyewitnesses revealed that the water was flowing over the bridge since morning due to which the two wheelers were restricted from crossing it.
The area around Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda near Margao town also saw flooding with vehicular movement disrupting during the entire morning.
The flooding was also reported in North Goa’s Sankhalim and Bicholim area after Valvonti River running parallel to these towns began overflowing.
IMD has issued warning for fishermen restraining them from venturing in the Sea till further alert.
