Panaji: All Goa Bakers & Confectioners Association today withdrew their decision to hike bread price from Rs 4 to Rs 5 from October 10.
Association president Peter Fernandes said that they have decided to withdraw their decision and instead will approach government to draft scheme for traditional bakers.
The decision has been hailed by Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat and Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai.
“I am happy that All Goa Bakers & Confectioners Association decided to withdraw the hike in price of Bread. I will now pursue with @goacm to ensure that they get all assistance recommended by Dr. Nandkumar Kamat Task Force Committee Report-2011,” Kamat tweeted.
Kamat has also requested the bakers association to ensure that the quality of bread is maintained and Goans are provided with nutricious ‘Pav’, thus maintaining the credibility of traditional bread.
Sardesai also tweeted “Kudos 2 #GoaBakersAssn 4 withdrawing d proposed hike in #pao, food of d common #Goemkar .Ministers justifying this hike have lost connect & don’t care 4 d common man.They should get grounded & work on the scheme for these traditional occupationists & stop making hollow statements”.
