Panaji: Several media professionals including owner of Herald Publications Raul Fernandes are chargesheeted by Crime Branch in connection with the gambling in the name of Housie lottery.
Fernandes, who is the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Herald group and seven others have been charge-sheeted before Judicial Magistrate First Class at Panaji.
Others who are named in the chargesheet includes Oswald Fernandes, Director of the media group, Boaventure Ferrao, Director, Vinayak Pai Bir, Printer and Publisher, Michael Fernandes, General manager, Arun Kumar Tailor, Housie Head, Adwait Desai, Advertisement In-charge and Assistant General Manager.
They are charge-sheeted under section 120 B of IPC and 3,4,5 and 12 of Goa Daman Diu Prevention of Gambling Act.
The Crime Branch had raided the premises of Herald located in Panaji on July 15, 2016.
The complaint was filed against the newspaper group, which also owns a cable news channel by Margao-based lawyer Rajiv Gomes.
The group has been accused of running a gambling in the name of Housie Lottery.
