A 25-year-old native of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh became a hero by donating organs and gave life to 5 people. After he met with an accident at mapusa and suffered severe brain injury despite receiving the best medical treatment, he could not be salvaged and was declared brain dead.
After the required request for Organ Donation was made, the donors wife took selfless and courageous decision and consented for organ donation.
The donor was a labourer at construction site in bicholim and is survived by his wife and three children.
The brain stem death certification was performed by Dr. Teresa Ferreira, Professor and Head of the Department of Neurology, GMC, and Dr. Rukma Kolwalkar, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, GMC.
Under the able leadership of Shri. Vishwajit Rane, Health Minister the organ donation and transplant programme is growing in the state of Goa.
The kidneys were allocated to patient enlisted on the waiting list for Deceased Donor Kidney Transplant by the State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization Goa Medical College to 35yr and 36 year female recipient at Goa Medical College.
The heart was allocated to 55year male at H. N Reliance Hospital Mumbai, Liver to 39 yr old male from Zydus hospital Ahmadabad by ROTTO West. As there was no suitable recipient in the region for Lungs, it was offered to the NOTTO and was allocated to Apollo Hospital Delhi.
As a gesture of gratitude Prof. Dr. S.M. Bandekar, Dean, Goa medical college promised the family to reach the mortal remains of the Organ Donor to his native village at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
GREEN CORRIDOR: Reaching donated organs to the recipient’s hospital quickly is crucial for the success of organ transplant. With the excellent coordination between SOTTO Goa, EMRI 108, Goa Police Traffic Cell and officials from Manohar International airports and Dabolim International Airport three Green Corridors were created from Goa Medical College to both airports, ensuring the smooth and timely transportation of organs. The airport officials played a vital role by giving top priority to the teams carrying organs.
To make the organ donation successful each and every stakeholder’s involvement is of utmost importance involving medical fraternity, Administrative departments, Traffic Cell Goa police, Airport Authority and above all the generosity of the donor family for SAYING YES TO ORGAN DONATION. This selfless act of organ donation will result in giving new hope to 5 families.
