Panaji: The Opposition members in Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday urged Governor Satya Pal Malik “not to give his assent to the Business transacted on the floor of the House” during one day long session.
The opposition members led by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai, MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar and Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte met Governor on Monday.
Before meeting the Governor, MLAs had staged walk out from the Assembly Session after Speaker Rajesh Patnekar refused to admit their Adjournment Motion.
Later the House passed State Budget and several other bills by voice vote.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, the opposition members have termed passing of the Budget as “murder of the democracy.”
“We request your immediate intervention on above issues and urge you not to give your Assent to the Business transacted in the Goa Legislative Assembly today,Monday 27th July 2020,” the memorandum reads.
“We also demand that a full-fledged Assembly Session may be convened to discuss on all the issues of prime importance such as covid pandemic, financial status of the state, economic revival plan and environmental issues etc,” it further reads.
The opposition benches said that Government of Goa has murdered the democracy by rejecting discussion on Covid pandemic and passing the State budget for 2020-21 without proper discussion in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
“The Government displayed its insensitive approach towards the health and wellbeing of the people by rejecting the Adjournment motion moved by the Opposition MLAs demanding discussion on the covid pandemic in the state of Goa,” the opposition members said.
They pointed out that government passed record business in the shortest time including eighty six demands, eleven bills and passing of the Goa Appropriation Bill, 2020 and Supplementary Demands for Grants for the year 2020-21 without any discussion.
