Anjuna: The opposition parties in the state including Congress and AAP has criticised the state government over their failure to control loud music in the night clubs, violating the order of Goa Bench of Bombay High Court.
The Division Bench of Goa Bench of Bombay High Court comprising Justices M S Karnik and Valmiki Menezes had ordered that the outdoor music should be not allowed to play until online noise meters are installed.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar told reporters on Tuesday that the locals in Anjuna area (North Goa coastal belt) have been protesting every night against the loud music played by the clubs in their respective areas post-10 pm.
Patkar said that he had visited these areas, four days back, along with other party colleagues during which he noticed large-scale violation of the law with night clubs playing loud music even after 10 pm.
The Congress leader said that the the night club owners, who are originally from Delhi, are paying scent respect to the law of the land. He said that the “bouncers” are placed at the entrance of these clubs, making it difficult even for the local police to go in.
He alleged that the permission of several establishments was withdrawn by Goa State Pollution Control Board, but despite that these clubs were functioning.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao told reporters that despite assurance by state environment minister Aleixo Sequeira that the loud music will not be allowed, the situation remains unchanged.
He said that the minister had assured on the floor of the House, during recently held monsoon session, that the loud music will be stopped post 10 pm.
AAP MLA Venzy Viegas on Sunday night had visited Anjuna police station with the locals demanding that the state police should immediately act against the violation of the law.
State Environment minister Aleixo Sequeira was not available for comments.
A senior Goa State Pollution Control Board official said that the five restaurants have installed online noise monitoring meters connecting it to the local police station, while thirty-three (33) more have been asked to install the gadget on priority basis.
He said that all these establishments are located in North Goa coastal belt. The officer said that all other establishments will also be mandated to install online noise monitoring meters.
