Panaji: The St Andre residents have threatened not to allow any refreshed attempts to bring in Marina project in their area claiming that six villages would be affected with the project.

Renowned social activist Jagdish Bhobe said that the project will affect villages of Odxel, Kakra, Navshi, Siridao, Bambolim, Goa Velha and Agassaim.

He said that the newspaper had released Public hearing without the knowledge of the locals. Bhobe said that the attempts were made to push this project through Coastal Zone Management Plan.

Bhobe said that this marina would be of no benefit for the locals. He said that the people from Navshe would be affected most.

“In this 1.50.000 Sq.Mts in which this project is coming up  there are 100 per cent possibilities of floods due to big encroachments by the Project authorities. That will also effect fisherfolks and they will be displaced by this project,” he said.

Bhobe recalled that this project was opposed by former MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh. The social activist suspected whether this is going to benefit the ten MLAs who had recently switched side.

“In 2010, then Congress and now BJP MLA Francis Silveira had opposed this project claiming that this will affect fishermen community but now he is silent on the issue,” he said.
