Only one taker for central government’s ambitious drone farming scheme in Goa

Panaji: Central government’s ambitious scheme promoting drone farming has only one taker in the state, though the state is actively promoting it in agriculture through several initiatives and partnerships aimed at increasing efficiency and sustainability in farming practices.

State Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik told Independent MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco that as on date only M/s Don Bosco Loutolim Society, Loutolim, Salcete-Goa owns drone used for farming, purchased by availing subsidy from
the Agriculture Department.

“Government of Goa is actively promoting the use of drone technology in agriculture through several initiatives and partnerships aimed at increasing efficiency and sustainability in farming practices,” he said, in a written reply tabled on the floor of the House on Thursday.

He said that the scheme named as Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM), which is a centrally sponsored scheme, is available for farmers in Goa to purchase drone in terms of financial assistance offered or subsidy provided including the cost of drone.
