Only One Complaint Filed Against Goa’s Tourist Taxi Operators: Govt

Panaji: Despite long-standing allegations of overcharging by tourist taxi operators in Goa, only one formal complaint has been recorded to date, the state’s Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho told the Assembly in a written reply on Wednesday.

Responding to a question tabled by BJP MLA Digambar Kamat, Godinho said that as on date, one complaint has been received from the Directorate of Tourism from tourists regarding exorbitant taxi fares.

“The complaint includes specific details of the incident and has been referred to the concerned authority for appropriate follow-up,” he told the House.
The taxi operators in the state has been facing the accusation of over charging, resulting in the slump in tourist footfalls.

In the same reply, Godinho said that there are total 2,573 taxis with All Goa permit, 13,586 with All India permit, 757 are Yellow-Black taxis and 164 are Blue Cab Taxis.
The minister said that the Government of Goa is fully committed to protecting the livelihood of existing local taxi operators, including traditional taxi drivers and motorcycle pilots.
