Panaji: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa director Gopal Mugeraya today said that the institute plans to shift to its new permanent campus Cuncolim by July 2021.
Addressing press conference, Mugeraya said that nearly 60 percent of boundary wall construction has been completed in the permanent site of NIT Goa.
“We have signed an MoU with Central Public Works Department for major construction work. They have inspected the site. The first phase of the project is estimated at Rs 396 crore. We have deposited Rs 30 crore with them,” he said.
“We plan to inaugurate the permanent campus by July 2021. We would shift there,” he said.
The foundation stone for the permanent campus of NIT Goa was laid in December 2018 by ex CM Late Manohar Parrikar in presence of Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar.
NIT Goa currently operates from a temporary campus at Farmagudi.
The press conference was called to announce the 5th Convocation ceremony of the institute on September 28.
