Nipah virus suspect admitted in Goa medical college

Bambolim:  Goa medical college and hospital has kept under observation a suspected patient of Nipah virus, who had arrived from Kerala and found with the symptoms of the disease.

The patient, whose identity has not been revealed by the doctors at Goa medical college and hospital, has been kept under observation in the hospital facility. State Health minister Vishwajit Rane said that there is nothing to worry as he has been kept under observation and he is not confirmed to be a patient of Nipah.

Rane said that the blood samples of the patient are sent for testing at National Institute of Virology in Pune.

A senior GMCH official said that the patient had arrived in Goa from Kerala yesterday and had complained of the symptoms which are similar to Nipah virus. “The patient himself suspected that he might be affected with the virus. So adequate precaution has been taken according to the protocol drawn by the State government,” he said.
