Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that two officers of the Goa State Pollution Control Board have been suspended in connection with the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub tragedy at Arpora.
He said that show-cause notices would be issued to a few other officers from different departments after an inquiry into the matter.
A total of 25 people were killed in the fire tragedy at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora on December 6.
Sawant said that the magisterial inquiry report related to the tragedy has been submitted to the state government and would be made public soon.
He said that the suspension of the two officers from the Goa State Pollution Control Board was ordered after examining the findings of the report, and that action would also be initiated against officials from other departments, including Fire and Emergency Services and the Excise Department.
Sawant stated that no one involved in allowing illegalities at the nightclub would be spared.
Responding to a question on the reopening of clubs that were sealed after the Birch tragedy, the Chief Minister said that clubs have been instructed to strictly adhere to the prescribed guidelines.
He said that once the guidelines are fulfilled, the clubs would be inspected and allowed to operate, failing which they would be shut down permanently.
Earlier, the state government had already suspended three officers, including Sharmila Monteiro, then Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Siddhi Halarnkar, then Director of Panchayats, and Raghuvir Bagkar, then Secretary of the Arpora-Nagoa Panchayat.
