Sanguem: After much delays, the work on a water tank at Jaquem, Netravali has been completed and it will provide water to the nearby areas. But the question remains what action would Public Works Department take against the erring contractor because of whom the work has been delayed.
Netravali based social worker Amit Naik said that he has been raising the issue regarding difficulties in water supplies faced by Netravali village for last three months.
“As my final attempt to get our work done I even warned water officials to file PIL against inefficient department for a reason that Incomplete work of tender which was given in 2016 for building water tank at Jaquem, Netravali , whose completion period was only 1 year and was pending from last 6 years,” he said. Naik also alleged that there was a conspiracy between contractor and water officials for delaying said project and paying contractor more then 50 % of said tender before completion of project.
Naik went to meet Assistant Engineer Bissenhalli who told himthat pending electricity connection is completed, also pumps have been installed and tasting of water tank will be done in coming days to see the quality of work done while building tank.
After which, the water would be supplied to the people which will solve almost all problems regarding water.
When asked, what will be the next if project which was pending for nearly 6 years turns defective, AE was quick enough to said that thorough action will be taken against said contractor , whom they already sent many letters and even fined for not completing the said tender on time.
“Our next move will be depending upon the result which we get only after the tasting of water tank,” Naik said.
Naik has demaned that before issuing any tender to any contractor there should be a report card of each contractor of how many projects were given and completed within time . Also there should be a strict watch on quality of work done n pending tenders. Only then this contractor will not waste taxpayers money.
