Panaji: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi all set to commission the first phase of International Airport in North Goa, State’s Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said that once new facility is opened, the existing Dabolim one would turn into “Ghost Airport.”
Talking to reporters in Panaji on Monday, Alemao said that it is obvious that the existing Airport at Dabolim (in South Goa) would convert into Ghost Airport, once new facility at Mopa is commissioned.
The Leader of Opposition said that the history has proved that two Airports cannot survive in one state. “In Goa too, the history will be repeated. Dabolim would turn into Ghost Airport,” he said adding that it would happen soon after the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held in the year 2024.
Alemao said that State government should work out “some innovative way” to ensure that both the Airports are functional.
Earlier during the day, chief minister Pramod Sawant had announced that the Prime Minister will commission Mopa Airport on December 11.
He had said that both the Airports will exist and operate.
