Panaji: Putting rest to all kind of possibilities of introducing amendment to the MMDR Act 1957 which could help resumption of iron ore mining activities in Goa, in the ongoing Parliament session, the Centre has said that the proposal is still under “examination” of Union Mines Ministry.
Minister of State for Mines and Coal Haribhai Parthibhai Chaudhary has said that “a proposal has been received from Government of Goa to amend MMDR Act 1957 and the same is under examination in the Ministry of Mines”.
He was responding to a joint unstarred question tabled by BJP MP Narendra Sawaikar and Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant seeking to know “whether the government proposed to amend MMDR Act 1957 and if so, the time by which the said amendment is likely to be implemented”.
Minister further said that as per the information provided by the State government, the annual revenue from mining for the year 2017-18 was Rs 510.19 crore.
