Bicholim: Police on Thursday arrested a man in Karnataka for kidnapping a minor girl from Goa, who was rescued from Bengaluru.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bicholim) Jivba Dalvi told reporters that the accused, Suraj Devgire, in his twenties, was arrested from Srinivaspura in Karnataka on Thursday.
The accused, during the interrogation, confessed to kidnapping the minor girl and keeping her in Bengaluru, Dalvi said, adding that the girl was also rescued immediately by Goa Police.
The formal complaint was lodged with Bicholim Police on September 04, 2024, by the father of the minor girl, stating that some unknown accused had kidnapped her.
Dalvi said that during the course of the investigation, different teams were formed, and searches were conducted at all suspected places. After initial unsuccessful attempts, Bicholim Police managed to identify and track the accused through technical surveillance in Srinivaspura, Karnataka.
The team of Bicholim Police later arrested the accused, who confessed to the crime and also revealed the whereabouts of the victim, he said.
The victim, in her statement, told the investigating officer that she was raped by the accused.
Bicholim Police have booked the accused under the POCSO Act, 2012, and relevant sections of the BNS.
