Porvorim: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday assured that efforts would be made to protect a heritage tree on the Airport Road at Dabolim, which is under threat due to the proposed flyover construction.
Environmental group Goa Green Brigade had appealed to the minister to safeguard the tree, citing its cultural and ecological importance.
Responding to the appeal, Kamat said he would personally inspect the site to assess the tree’s condition.
If it can be saved, we will definitely save it, he assured.
The heritage tree, located along the road leading to Goa’s only airport, has become a point of contention between conservationists and authorities focused on infrastructure expansion. Officials added that the final decision will be taken after the site visit and technical feasibility study.
