Michael Lobo faces opposition from his own constituents over shifting of casinos to Aguada

Panaji: The people of Calangute and Saligao constituency have raised their strong opposition to shifting of off shore casinos, anchored in River Mandovi, to Aguada bay.

Calangute Constituency Forum, Candolim Active Citizens Forum and Pilerne Citizen Forum today addressed joint press conference warning Lobo against shifting off shore casinos to Aguada. They have threatened to go to any extent to stop relocation of casinos in their constituency.

Calangute Constituency Forum President Premanand Divkar slammed Port Minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo for promoting casinos in the name of tourism. “Lobo says casinos are part of tourism. But that same casinos will give futher rise to drugs, prostitution in our constituency, which are not going to allow,” he said.

Divakar said that the Calangute constituency is already saturated and the situation worsens during tourism season.

He also questioned government  as where the revenue generated from casinos, last ten years, going, if till date it has not managed to stabilize the state economy.

Pilerne Citizen Forum President Prakash Bandodkar requested Lobo not to fool the people. He demanded to know as whom the casinos, once shifted to Aguada, will benefit.
