Panaji : The Village Panchayat of Calangute organised ‘Calangute Growing Green’ today (1st June) at Dona Lavina senior citizen ghar. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo while speaking at the event encouraged people to undertake kitchen farming.
“Next week we will be distributing seeds of fruit and vegetable bearing plants that can be easily planted in the backyard of the kitchen. This will help people to become self sufficient as they will be able to harvest vegetables right from their backyard” said  Lobo.
Speaking about revolutionizing agriculture Lobo spoke of his own example “I grow vegetables on my land, we have also bought a farm where I want to grow vegetables and sell, these will be homely vegetables, free from chemical fertilizers”.
He has also told the locals that he will reimburse the cost incurred by them while purchasing fertilizers. “I request you to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers but if at all you need to buy it we will reimburse you” added Lobo.
Lobo asserted that since cyclone Tauktae has uprooted many trees locals need to plant trees in their place to make Calangute green.
