Panaji: Archbishop of Goa Filipe Neri Ferrao has cancelled all the masses with congregations in the state’s Churches owing to the call of Janata Curfew given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“In view of Janata Curfew proposed by Government of India on March 22, I am instructed by the Archbishop to convey to you that no mass with congregation should be celebrated on places of worship on Sunday,” the spokesman from Archbishop’s Palace said in a statement released here.

“Priests are instructed to celebrate their mass without congregations with the intentions of their flock. This mass could be used to reach the faithful by using the modern means of communication at our disposal,” he said.

“Incidentally, it is believed that the 14 hour long nationwide curfew will effectively control the spread of coronavirus which has apparently twelve hour span of life,” the spokesman added.

“We will emerge as a safer nation at the end of the day for which it is important that we should strictly remain indoors,” he said.
