Cuncolim: At the backdrop of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announcing Rs 310.92 crore for Cuncolim by-pass to decongest the traffic, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao appealed the centre to ensure that alignment of the new road should not damage the existing houses.

He said that the alignment should also not cause major environmental damage to the area. Alemao, however, has welcomed the decision of construction of by-pass.

He said that the  traffic Congestion at Cuncolim is a major issue. Movement of Heavy Vehicles through the main market area is causing serious danger to the pedestrians who visit the market. There are various Schools just few meters away from the exhisting Highway and vehicular traffic also causes serious threat to School Children, he said.

“I hope the Public Works Department as well as Ministry of Road Transport will prepare the new alignment of the Bypass by taking the local residents into confidence. I will see to it that the residential houses are not damaged at any cost due to the Bypass,” Alemao added.

Government should also ensure that the Highway Expansion from Dandewado to Uskini Arc is taken up by taking locals into confidence. There should not be any threat to the exhisting houses,  Alemao said.

“I will keep a close watch on the process of land acquisition for the Bypass as well as Highway Expansion and ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the locals,” assured Alemao.
