Panaji: On the first day of the Assembly session, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao raised concerns over the safety of Goans employed and residing in the Middle East amid the escalating conflict.

Alemao highlighted that fear and uncertainty prevail among Goan workers regarding both their personal safety and job security.

He stressed that contingency plans, including evacuation arrangements, must be prepared if the situation deteriorates further.

Families in Goa depend heavily on remittances sent by members working in countries affected by the current tensions. There is fear and uncertainty among Goan workers regarding their safety and job security. Evacuation arrangements are required in case the situation worsens, Alemao stated.

He urged the government to establish a dedicated desk to collect data on Goans in the region and to coordinate with the central government for assistance. He further recommended setting up a helpline to support those in distress.
