Panaji: While the opposition has sought government intervention to stop rise in bread prices, Minister for Ports Michael Lobo finds it “fair enough” for bakers to raise the cost of ‘pao’.

“Considering rising labour costs and rise in other materials needed in a bakery, it’s fair enough for bakers to raise the cost of Goan bread by a rupee,” Lobo tweeted.

However, he tweeted further that bakers should ensure that quality of ‘poi’ is not compromised.

Goa Bakers & Confectioners Association on Wednesday announced to hike ‘pao’ prices to Rs 5 from existing Rs 4.

Leader of Opposition Digamber Kamat has urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to stop price rise in the interest of common man.
