Panaji: Various Lifeguards posted on Goa’s beaches and river fronts and differently-abled persons are categorized as Frontline Workers by state health department, a senior official said.

State Immunisation Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar said that the notification has been issued classifying the people from these two categories – lifeguards and differently-abled – as Frontline workers.

State’s beaches are currently manned by lifeguards appointed by a private agency.

Borkar said that the lifeguards would have to get certificate from the State Tourism department to validate themselves for the vaccination.

The vaccination for the lifeguards will begin from tomorrow, May 25, he said.

As far as differently abled persons are concerned, Borkar said that the Health Department will draw a strategy along with the State Social Welfare department.

“We don’t want to create any inconvenience to the differently abled persons when they arrive at vaccination centre. The plan would be drawn after consulting Social Welfare department,” he said.

The dates for the vaccination of differently abled would be announced later, he added.
