Leopard killed after getting caught in a wired snare at Kopordem, Sattari

Valpoi: A full grown Leopard was killed on the border of Mhadei Wildlife sanctuary in Sattari taluka of North Goa on the intervening night of Thursday-Friday after it was caught in a wired snare.

A senior Forest department official said that the carcass of Leopard was found trapped in a wired snare near Kopordem village in Sattari taluka on Friday morning.

He said that the wired snared was laid in the forest area on the border of Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary.

“The male Leopard was killed in the trap. The investigation has been initiated in the matter. The Forest Department officials have rushed to the spot after getting the information,” he said.

State Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane said that “strict action would be initiated against the violators.”

The incidents of men-animal conflict have been regular in Sattari taluka which saw a Tiger dying in a wired snare at Keri village (Sattari) in the year 2009, followed by killing of a Tigress and her three cubs in the same taluka in the year 2017.
