Miramar: Several leaders, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on Monday paid homage to late Manohar Parrikar on his death anniversary.
The leaders gathered at the Manohar Parrikar Memorial in Miramar, where he was laid to rest on March 17, 2019, following his death due to cancer.
Hundreds of people gathered at the memorial, which is located adjacent to Miramar Beach in the capital city of Panaji.
Speaking to reporters after paying homage, Sawant said that late Parrikar is remembered for his transparency in administration and governance.
The chief minister recalled that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had termed late Parrikar the “Architect of New Goa.”
Sawant said that all the infrastructure projects envisioned by Parrikar are getting completed. “I am fortunate that I have been able to complete the infrastructure projects that were started during Parrikar’s rule,” he said.
The chief minister stated that the new international airport at Mopa in North Goa, the Zuari Bridge connecting North and South Goa, and Atal Sethu, a bridge in Panaji, were some of the infrastructure projects initiated during Parrikar’s tenure.
BJP Goa President Damodar Naik said that the politics and governance of Goa cannot be complete without mentioning late Manohar Parrikar.
“He will always be in the hearts of the people of Goa,” Naik said.
Utpal Parrikar, son of late Parrikar, said, “At a personal level, his demise brought a loss that we cannot overcome. We miss him every day.”
“He will always be remembered by Goa as a chief minister, and personally, as a son, it is a loss that cannot be compensated,” he added.
