Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Friday wrote to Speaker of Legislative Assembly to reserve passing of the Budget to lengthier session.

The opposition benches have been objecting to the decision of Business Advisory Committee to pass the Budget during one day long session scheduled on July 27.

GFP had placed its objection before the Speaker on Thursday.

Khaunte, who is opposition MLA, said that the sensitive issues such as Bills, Budget etc which are likely to have strong impact on the day to day functioning of Goa and Goans should be reserved to be debated in the “lengthier session”, expected to be held in November-December 2020.

The MLA said that during the day long session key issues of the state such as restructuring of the Budget, management of the COVID-19 pandemic, revival of economy, inflated electrical bills and most importantly, the environmental impact of approving projects through the Mollem National Park and Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary should be given precedence.

Khaunte said that the members of the assembly, irrespective of their political orientation, need a realistic and feasible opportunity to raise, debate and discuss issues that are eating the roots of democracy in the State such as illegal land transfers, quarantine tourism scams, building workers scam, allotment of funds for COVID-19 warriors and others.
