Sanguem: The continuing politics over the affairs of Sanjivani Sugar Factory has now necessitates that Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, who is also Agriculture Minister, should clarify his stand, Shiv Sena’s Goa Vice President Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik said.

In a press note released here, Naik has said “it is a well known fact that during the tenure of Vijai Sardesai, the decision has been taken to shift the factory from the ambit of Cooperation department to Agriculture department.”

“Kavlekar and his family has been active in Sanguem constituency shedding crocodile tears for the sake of farmers. It is high time that Mr Kavlekar, without wasting any more time, should spell out his plans for the Sugarcane farmers, who are solely dependent on this factory,” she added.

Though the State government has said that they will revive the factory, the clear cut statement should come about what is the fate of the farmers.

Naik further said that there are no irrigation facilities for them due to which the sugarcane cultivation is on decrease. What are the plans of the government to provide them adequate water to irrigate their crop.

“Kavlekar has joined BJP with the claim that he wants to work for the people and bring in development. Does he mean that he wants to develop only Quepem constituency or also has intentions to work for the welfare of Sanguem people, where he was canvassing for his wife during last election.”

“Also, we want to know what does he mean when he speaks about the development. If it is about converting lands and bringing in huge buildings, then we will never allow it. But he speaks of all inclusive development, even including farmers in it, then he should walk the talk.”
