Inquiry initiated into the incident of Vasco patient refused treatment at GMC: Vishwajit Rane

Panaji:  Goa health department on Sunday initiated inquiry after one of the patient from Vasco town of South Goa, which has prevalence of the COVID-19 cases, was allegedly refused treatment at state run Goa Medical College and Hospital near here.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that he has sought report from the concerned authorities after one of the person claimed that his wife was refused treatment at GMC when she told the doctor that she hails from the port town of Vasco.

The town has reported maximum COVID-19 cases in the state.

The video which went viral has a person claiming that his wife was taken to the casualty of GMC but doctor refused to treat her after she informed that she was from Vasco.

Rane said that the authorities will get in contact with the concerned patient and get the details about the incident.

The Health minister said that considering rising number of COVID-19 cases, all the patients arriving at GMC would be screened at the entrance through special facility.

“There will be two screening facilities, one which will be flue OPD and another for the regular patients before they are treated at the hospital,” he said.
