Panaji:Indian Coast Guard has evacuated more than 2,500 people from the flooded areas of Kerala till now, the agency has said today.
In a press note released here, Indian Coast Guard has said that during the operation in Kerala they have evacuated 2,507 people.
The ICG spokesman has said that total 19 persons were airlifted by the Helicopter and 6,415 persons were guided to safer locations.
In all 510 ICG people were engaged in relief operation who used 35 Gemini crafts.
During the operation, the ICG recovered one dead body.
They distributed 2,950 food packets and in addition air dropped 650 of food packets using Helicopters.
The spokesman said Indian Coast Guard Headquarters (Kerala and Mahe) has deployed 31 rescue and relief teams to several parts of Kerala State.
“Each team is geared with necessary floatation devices like Gemini/ Life Rafts, Life Jackets, Life Buoys, Ropes and Rescue Materials,” he said.
“The additional Coast Guard Helicopters from Goa augmented the rescue operations in the affected area,” the spokesman said. “Further Coast Guard Officers and men embarked on fishing boats and commenced rescue operations in Paravur and Varapuzha,” he added.
