Panaji, 16 December: In the Zilla Panchayat elections, the ruling BJP and the so-called opposition Congress have been exposed for having a secret alliance. According to AAP, the Calangute Zilla Panchayat seat is the clearest example of this.
AAP Organisation Secretary Shrikrishna Parab addressed a press conference today at the party office. AAP’s Calangute ZP candidate Carol Fernandes was present with him.
Speaking to the media, Parab said, BJP had earlier expelled Carmelina Fernandes from its party, but now the Congress has given her a ticket. The same Carmelina Fernandes had actively campaigned for BJP Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira. Now that she is contesting on a Congress ticket, it clearly means that in Calangute there are actually two BJP candidates. Even if voters think they are voting for Congress, their vote will ultimately go to BJP. Therefore, voters should cast their vote for AAP’s broom symbol, as AAP is the main opposition to BJP in the state.
AAP’s Calangute candidate Carol Fernandes said, In Calangute, AAP is the only real opposition to BJP. If you vote for Carmelina Fernandes thinking she is a Congress candidate, that vote will go to BJP because she has worked extensively for BJP. Since 2022, she has actively campaigned for Joseph Sequeira, who is the BJP Sarpanch. Therefore, I humbly appeal to the people of Calangute Panchayat to vote for change and support AAP. Our symbol is the broom.
Overall, in this Zilla Panchayat election, Congress has betrayed anti-BJP voters and its own party workers by giving a ticket to a BJP worker in Calangute. This clearly shows that in Goa, only AAP is serious about defeating BJP.
