IMD issues Red Alert for Goa on June 9-10

Panaji: With the onset of monsoon in the coastal state, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued red alert for June 9-10 in the state.

The IMD website has mentioned that during last 24 hours as on Saturday, the monsoon was active over the state of Goa.

“Moderate rainfall occurred at many places with Very Heavy at a few places over the state of Goa,” the department has said.

The IMD has issued Red Alert in the state on June 9 and June 10. “Moderate to heavy rainfall very likely over North Goa and South Goa districts of the state,” the IMD has said.

The department has said that Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places with Extremely heavy rainfall likely at isolated places over North Goa and South Goa districts of the state.

The orange alert has been issued for June 11-12.

As an impact of the Red Alert, the IMD has said that the visibility may become poor due to intense spell of rainfall leading to traffic congestion.

“There could be temporary Disruption of traffic due to water logging in roads / leading to increased travel time. Uprooting of trees may cause damages to power sector. There is possibility of damages to vulnerable structures due to heavy to very heavy rain,” the website has mentioned.

The department has also said that the possibilities of Flash floods due to intense spell of rainfall.
