Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday released a stamp on legendary cinematographer late K Vaikunth during the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025 in Panaji.
The commemorative postage stamp was released in the presence of Vaikunth’s son, Amit Kunkalekar, and officials of the Indian Post Department.

K Vaikunth passed away in February 2023 at the age of 77.
Sawant recalled how, from the lanes of Margao, Goa, Vaikunth rose to become one of the most respected cinematographers of Goa. Vaikunthbab was more than a cameraman.
He said that Vaikunth was a creator of emotion, mood, and vision. He worked closely with legendary directors like Gulzar and Ramesh Sippy, creating some of the most iconic films in Indian cinema.
The chief minister said that his unique style captured both grand cinematic spectacles and the softest human emotions.
Films like Seeta Aur Geeta and Aandhi carry his signature. Sawant said that every film he shot came alive on screen.
The chief minister added that even though Vaikunth shaped some of the finest moments of Indian cinema, he always remained a quiet and unsung hero. His work continues to inspire cinematographers and film lovers across generations.
