Hyderabad based rowdy sheeter arrested in Goa for killing casino security guard

Panaji: In a free-style fight at a city casino on Wednesday night, a rowdy sheeter from Hyderabad assaulted multiple security guards, leading to death of one.

Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta told reporters on Thursday that Abdul Altaf (25), a rowdy sheeter of Mailardevpally Police Station, Hyderabad was arrested when he was trying to escape the state at Dabolim Airport in South Goa during wee hours of Thursday.

He said that Panaji Police Station received a distress call at around 3:10 am regarding an assault incident at Casino Carnival, Campal, Panaji.

“A guest at the casino had assaulted multiple security personnel using a wooden rod, which was extracted from the staircase and had an iron clamp at its base, with the intention to kill,” Gupta said.

The SP said that during the assault, one of the security personnel, Dheeru Sharma (33) native of Satna, Madhya Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

“Another security guard, Satyam Gaonkar (27) from Shiroda in South Goa Goa, sustained a head injury,” he said.

Gupta said that a team was constituted under his supervision to investigate the matter and trace the accused.

“The team successfully apprehended the accused, identified as Abdul Altaf, son of Abdul Rauf, aged 25 years, resident of Misri Ganj, Charminar, Hyderabad, Telangana,” he said.
The accused was intercepted while proceeding towards Dabolim Airport in an attempt to evade arrest, the SP said.

Gupta said that it has also come to light that Abdul Altaf is a rowdy sheeter of Mailardevpally Police Station, Hyderabad.

He said that the FSL team has visited the scene of the crime. FIR is being registered and further investigation is underway.
