Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Saturday once against raised the issue about non-Goans entering the state through the trains, questioning state government’s wisdom in allowing such people from red zones.

Khaunte expressed his anger over chief minister Pramod Sawant’s failure to arrest the increasing inflow of people in the state who have been the reason for current COVID-19 cases.

The Porvorim MLA in the past had claimed that the trains are being run to allow non-Goans who are having their second homes in the coastal state, to shelter here.

Addressing a press conference, Khaunte pointed out that Goans had abided by all the instructions of social distancing and staying indoor during the lockdown period, due to which the state remained Green Zone.

“But the unwanted decisions by state government to allow non-Goans enter the state have once again resulted in the rising number of COVID-19 cases,” he said.

Khaunte said that the state government instead of bringing in Goans who are stranded all over the globe and also in different states, has been busy welcoming people with their second home here.

He said that the passengers who arrived by two trains on Saturday were majority of them non-Goans, some including honeymoon couples.
