Canacona: Prime minister Narendra Modi will unveil 77-feet-tall bronze statue of Shree Ram at Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt at Canacona in South Goa on November 28, a senior functionary said.
Shrinivas Dempo, the chairman of mutt’s central committee, told reporters on Wednesday that the 77-feet-statue of Shree Ram would be unveiled at the hands of the Prime minister.
He said that Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Chief minister Pramod Sawant and Union minister Shripad Naik along with the state cabinet ministers will be present for the function.
Dempo said that the PM will arrive at 3.45 pm at the venue. He said that a special helipads has been constructed in the mutt premises.
He said that the PM will visit the temple located in the mutt before addressing the public meeting.
Dempo said that various programmes are being held from November 27 till December 7 to mark the 550 years of the mutt tradition. The current mutt premises was constructed at Partagal village in Canacona 370 years back, he said.
He said that various programmes are planned to be held during these days and around 7,000-10,000 people are expected to arrive at mutt premises.
State Public Works Department minister Digambar Kamat told reporters during the press conference that this would be the tallest statue of Shree Ram in the entire world.
He said that the mutt has been acting as a spiritual centre for ages. Kamat said that the mutt premises has been completely refurbished giving it a modern look.
Kamat said that sculptor Ram Sutar who was behind the Statue of Unity at Gujarat has made this statue of Shree Ram.
