Highest COVID-19 numbers, Goa records 506 new infections on Sunday

Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday said that the state has witnessed highest spike with 506 people testing positive for COVID-19 infection on a single day.

Rane was talking to reporters after chairing marathon meetings with the medical experts and bureaucrats to tackle the pandemic situation.

The Health minister said that on Sunday 506 patients were detected positive which is highest ever spike in the state.

“We are in discussion with the chief minister over the issue. Second covid hospital has already been announced by the CM,” he said.

The minister said that Sub District hospital at Ponda has been declared as second COVID-19 facility where patients are being moved for treatment from Sunday onwards.

“We have decided to have total two covid hospitals in the State,” he said appealing the people to be cautious and take all the precautions against COVID-19.

Rane said that the people should come to the hospitals (general hospitals) only in case of emergency situation.

Rane said that the plasma therapy treatment which has began in the state is showing positive signs. “We have administered plasma therapy to ten patients, of whom, seven are showing positive results. We will extend the treatment to more patients,” he added.

Rane said that the state government has roped in the experts from medical field, including private doctors, to tackle the situation.

He also rubbished that there is shortfall of medicines to treat COVID-19 in the state. “There is no shortage of medicines,” he said.
