Panaji – There is fear and anxiety in the minds of the patients as well as their relatives with regards to availability of beds and other medical equipmements in GMC. People are feeling afraid of the entire Super Speciality Block crashing down after the ceiling of a section of the block collapsed and water came inside ,flooding the Covid ward just on the second day of its opening. Health Secretary Ravi Dhavan must restore the confidence of the people by guaranteeing the patients of availability of beds, equipments and their safety before blaiming media and opposition stated GPCC Spokesperson Arch. Tulio de Souza.

I strongly condemn the belated statement of the Health Secretary who tried to defend the gross mismangement in GMC and overall failure of the State Government by their inapt handling of the Covid pandemic. The Health Secretary must first ask his Health Minister Vishwajit Rane why he clearly admitted and made public annoucement of the deaths which occured in GMC between 2 am to 6 am due to shortage of oxygen. The statement of the Health Secretary denying that deaths in GMC did not happen due to lack of oxygen is in clear contradiction of the submissions made before the High Court by the Government.

Congress Party will take initiative to encourage people to take quick admission in GMC and other Government facilities if the Health Secretary gives us assurance that patients will not be made to suffer , by making them sit on chairs or sleep on stretchers and floors while taking treatment. The entire health infrastructure has collapsed and the insensitive government is pointing fingers at others by blaming them for governments gross failures stated Tulio de Souza.

We want Chief Minister to tell the people of Goa about what action Government has initiated about the incident of front glass facade of Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Stadium being blown away by winds and the steps the Government has initiated to bring to justice all those who are responsible for sub-standard work of the Super Speciality Block. As the Government has got completely exposed, the Chief Minister and Health Minister are now finding it difficult to face the media and hence pushed the bureaucracy ahead to avoid answering tough questions ,Arch. Tulio de Souza said.

There are several videos which have gone viral exposing the actual condition of the patients between 2 am to 6 am when the oxygen levels went down in GMC. There are videos of relatives narrating horrific situations when their loved ones died gasping for oxygen. There are videos exposing pathetic state of washrooms and toilets in various wards of GMC. Health Secretary must come clean and explain if all these videos are false.

It is high time that the government seeks expert advice and forms a task force for management and handling of Covid pandemic. Government has not only failed in giving good treatment to patients, but has failed in giving a decent farewell to the departed souls.

There is loot going on in GMC to shift bodies from Wards to Mortuaries and later for Cremations. Hearse Vans are not available. Exhorbitant rates are charged and there is absolutely no control of the government. Health Secretary must find some time to look into it.
We are still waiting for an announcement on the compensation to be paid to the families of the innocent victims who have lost their lives due to the incompetence and gross negligence of the Government.
